Pease, Be Safe: Shelter-In-Place Update
As you likely heard, the City of Austin plans to announce a shelter-in-place order later today (March 24th). Under this order, parks will remain open to the public for exercise and dog walking. If this changes we will alert our Pease Park community immediately.
The safest practice is to stay home, but if you do need to get out and find some respite in nature, please diligently practice the recommended safety precautions.
Wash your hands vigorously (especially after returning from a public space) for 20 seconds with warm water.
Keep your distance from other park users, at least 6 feet.
As usual, bring your own reusable water bottle, and keep in mind that our restrooms are currently closed.
Avoid handling any exercise or play equipment.
Cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing.
Stay home if you feel at all unwell.
If you would like to help our community, below are a few of many options. It is reassuring to see how people across the country are pulling together to offer support and crucial assistance during this time.
The Austin Disaster Relief Network is partnering with the Austin Emergency Management (HSEM) and Austin Public Health departments to facilitate collection of protective gear from the public from March 23rd - March 28th at four different drop off locations.
The American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage due to blood drive cancellations across Texas. They are urging people who are able to give blood. People can sign up to give at various locations in Texas.
Support Central Texas Food Bank as they help keep food on the table for those in need.
Pease Park has been a part of Austin for 145 years and we will ensure its role as an integral part of this community long after this pandemic passes. Stick with us as we continue to serve the park we all love.
