Kingsbury Commons Project Continues

We have been notified by the City of Austin that the capital improvement project at Kingsbury Commons will continue during the shelter-in-place order. As a public works project, our work at Kingsbury Commons falls under the critical infrastructure category for the City of Austin. We are working closely  with our general contractor and the City to ensure that proper protocols and procedures required to promote safety and wellness are being observed at the construction site. These procedures incorporate social distancing and sanitation requirements, including maintaining a minimum six-foot distance between individuals, frequent hand washing and/or using hand sanitizer, covering coughs or sneezes, and regular sanitization of equipment, tools, lunch areas and office areas.

We officially received our site development permit and began construction on March 16th. The first steps require demolition of existing concrete structures, including demolition and removal of the basketball court, sport court, and playground equipment. Demolition work will continue for the next several weeks to include the splash pad foundation and its equipment hut, and the restrooms. This work will be followed by site grading and layout of the Treehouse feature designed by Mell Lawrence Architects.

Prior to getting our site development permit, we were able to complete tree protection and erosion control efforts.

The role of our local parks and recreation as essential civic infrastructure has never been more apparent as schools and workplaces have shut down and people find themselves isolated and in need of community. We are excited to start seeing dirt move and things change out on the construction site. And we are even more excited to start seeing things take shape over the next few months.

Thank you to the community for your generous support. You all are the reason we are able to serve the park and we are grateful.
